Carl: Let’s get a taxi.
カール：タクシーを拾おうか。

Doris: There’s no need. I’ve already ordered a car.
ドリス：その必要は無いわ、私はもう車の手配をして置いたから。

Carl: A limo? That’s too expensive.
カール：リムジン？　こんなの高価すぎるよ。

Doris: No, I’m using a ridesharing service. It’s cheaper than a taxi. There’s no meter and we pay a set price.
ドリス：大丈夫よ、私はライドシェアリング・サービスを利用しているの、タクシーなんかより、ずっと安上がり、メーター制じゃなくて、固定料金なのよ。

Carl: But how do we know it’s safe? How do we know the driver isn’t a criminal or an unsafe driver? Is he going to have car insurance? Do they do background checks?
カール：でも、これって、本当に安全なのかい？　運転手が犯罪者かも知れないし、危険な運転をしないとも限らないだろう？　自動車保険に入っているのかな、彼らの前科を調べているんだろうか？

Doris: Even though it’s a peer-to-peer service, the drivers are carefully screened and the cars are tracked. Trust me. This ride will be safe.
ドリス：これはピアツーピアのサービスにも関わらず、運転手たちは慎重に選別されていて、車もきちんと監視されているの、私を信じて、この自動車はきっと安全なんだから。

Carl: We don’t have much cash on us.
カール：僕たち、そんなに現金を持ち合わせていないでしょ。

Doris: I have a credit card on file. No cash will change hands. Look, here’s our driver. Hello, Michael.
ドリス：私はクレジットカードを登録している、だから、現金を払う必要はないのよ、運転手さんが来たわ、こんにちは、マイケル。

Carl: You know our driver?
カール：運転手さんを知っているの？

Doris: He’s my son.
ドリス：私の息子なの。

Carl: But why are you paying for a ride if your son is available to pick us up?
カール：でも、自分の息子が迎えに来ているのに、どうして、君は運転料金を払うつもりかい？

Doris: He has his pride. He won’t take any money from me so we came up with a compromise: I hire his car whenever I need a ride to or from the airport. It works for us and there’s a bonus.
ドリス：彼にもプライドは有るから、息子は私からお金を一切受け取らないわ、だから、私たちは妥協案を考えたの：私が車が必要な時や空港からの帰りはいつも息子の車に乗るの、上手く行っているわ、それに、ご褒美も有るわ。

Carl: What’s that?
カール：どう言うこと？

Doris: I get to see my son every time I travel.
ドリス：私は旅行するたびに自分の息子に会うことが出来るのよ。

Carl: That seems like a strange arrangement.
カール：ちょっと、変わった親子関係のようだね。

Doris: That may be so, but if you can’t get your son to visit more often, what’s a mother to do?
ドリス：そうかも知れないわね、でも、もし、あなたが自分の息子に頻繁に会いに行けなかったら、こうするしか無いでしょ？
